Volkswagen Original parts hits home in new campaign

Hello world,

VW in its new campaign produced a series a shorts, really short (18sec) that put a smile on my face and really hit home. I think at the core of the idea, we can all relate to the now infamous auto-correct function of our smartphones. It even spearheaded great sites like ” damnyouautocorrect.com ” where you can easily spend an hour laughing at what you’re glad didn’t happen to you.

It’s not you

Boss

Son you’re adorable

Now I don’t have to tell you that these are going to spread virally over the next few days. But I will. The simplicity, borderline minimalism in these spots is the real drive here. The message is simple and clear and we can all relate to it. Great job.

Unfortunately, i have an issue with this campaign. Whatever happen to not texting and driving? Or maybe i’m the only person who makes the connotation here. When i think cars, and car brands these days i’m thinking of texting while driving rather driving under the influence. VW is not helping here. I get the message the ad is sending (and the context) and salute the execution, but i can’t help but worry about that other aspect.

What do you think?

  1. I think I know what/who [since corporations now have souls and all…], when some idiot totals my car… oh wait, I will probably not stay alive! Oh well, it was fun while it lasted 🙂
